Black Diamond Equipment To Donate 1% of April Online Sales to The Nature Conservancy

March 28, 2017

SALT LAKE CITY, March 28, 2017 — Black Diamond Equipment®, a global innovator in climbing, skiing, mountain sports equipment and apparel, announces today the launch of its April fundraiser for The Nature Conservancy, a charitable environmental organization whose mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. For the entire month, Black Diamond Equipment will donate 1% of its online sales to The Nature Conservancy for its work at the Canyonlands Research Center.

“This project is a piece of the puzzle within the much beloved Indian Creek,” explains Libby Ellis, marketing manager for Black Diamond Equipment. “Indian Creek is a spiritual home for many of us here at Black Diamond, thus our support of protecting its landscape is super meaningful to us.”

Founded in 2009, the Canyonlands Research Center is designed to address the most pressing challenges facing rural Utah and similar ecosystems around the world. The Canyonlands Research Center provides research and new information about how temperature, rainfall and land uses combine to affect the productivity and health of natural resources on the Colorado Plateau. The Center brings together scientists, public land managers, ranchers and other local stakeholders that will define the future of the Colorado Plateau’s environment and economy. It is housed at The Nature Conservancy’s Dugout Ranch – a gateway to the Canyonlands National Park, 20 miles northwest of Monticello.

“For more than 60 years, The Nature Conservancy has championed ways for people to take action on behalf of places they cherish,” states Sue Bellagamba, Canyonlands Regional Director for the Conservancy’s Utah Chapter. “Black Diamond’s longstanding support of Indian Creek is a perfect example. We are extremely grateful for this generous initiative and even more so for our history of collaboration. By continuing our work together, we can provide a path forward to a future of hope.”

This deep-rooted partnership began in 1996, when Black Diamond helped The Nature Conservancy acquire Dugout Ranch. Together, they educated climbers about the ranch’s history and identified places for climbers to camp after a day climbing in Indian Creek.
