Golden, Colo. (July 23, 2019) – Big City Mountaineers, a leading provider of wilderness adventures for under resourced youth, announces today its partnership with Eddie Bauer and Ed Viesturs for a month long fundraising campaign benefitting Big City Mountaineers (BCM).
The campaign will run from July 21st– August 17th at Eddie Bauer retail locations across the country as well as online. Both in-store and online, customers will have the opportunity to donate to BCM when checking out.
“Eddie Bauer has supported Big City Mountaineers for several years,” says Bryan Martin, Executive Director of Big City Mountaineers. “This will be their second year hosting a point of sale campaign for BCM, where they feature BCM as their nonprofit partner at checkout.” Last year, the campaign raised almost $40,000 for Big City Mountaineers in one month.
Ed Viesturs, renowned mountaineer and Eddie Bauer athlete, will be supporting the fundraising campaign through social media.
“As a former Big City Mountaineers board member, I’ve watched the organization grow and succeed for over a decade. The alignment between BCM and my own career as a high-altitude mountaineer is natural – I have experienced the transformative power of reaching personal summits in my own career and wholeheartedly believe in the power of providing a similar experience outdoors to under-resourced youth.”
Big City Mountaineers, celebrating its 30th season of sending youth into the backcountry, will serve youth from seven major US metropolitan areas in 2019. In addition to BCM’s signature, week-long wilderness expedition geared towards teenagers, BCM has expanded its offerings to include overnight camps for younger kids, and a Peer Leader program for graduates of the week-long expedition. All of these experiences serve to have a lasting impact on youth who are unfairly disadvantaged at home or in school.
To raise awareness and funds for its programs, BCM offers similar outdoor experiences for interested individuals or corporations looking for a team service opportunity. Summit for Someone, launched in 2004, offers guided summits of peaks across the nation, as well as “Custom Challenges,” where groups can build their own fundraising adventure. About Big City Mountaineers:
Big City Mountaineers (BCM) instills critical life-skills in nearly 1,000 under-served young people each year by getting them outdoors with volunteer mentors for life-changing wilderness experiences. BCM’s unique model of 1-to-1 mentoring is proven to develop integrity and responsibility, as well as improve communication skills and decision-making abilities, in youth from risk-filled environments through a nationally recognized developmental analysis tool. These youth are given the opportunity to develop these skills alongside caring volunteer mentors, which creates positive lasting change in these youth. They become more likely to stay in school and avoid drugs, gangs and violence.
