March 10, 2025

Gravel community to share the Power of Bicycles with rural families

March 10, 2025, USA /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – World-class cycling event company GRVL® today announced World Bicycle Relief as its worldwide charity partner for its three premier gravel racing events: SBT GRVL p/b Wahoo, FNLD GRVL and RADL GRVL.

GRVL® is known for organizing premier gravel cycling events that bring together riders of all levels, from professionals to passionate amateurs. Each event offers participants the chance to experience stunning landscapes and challenging courses while building a strong community spirit.

World Bicycle Relief is an innovative non-profit social enterprise dedicated to helping rural communities thrive through the Power of Bicycles. Over the past 20 years, WBR has provided more than 875,000 Buffalo Bicycles to students, healthcare workers, and entrepreneurs, delivering life-changing mobility solutions in rural regions around the world. Through their holistic approach—including local assembly, training mechanics, and ensuring access to spare parts—WBR transforms mobility into opportunity for those who need it most.

“Following a successful partnership for RADL GRVL, the feedback from our participants has been overwhelmingly positive: riders want to have the opportunity to give back, and they understand the powerful impact that World Bicycle Relief is having in rural communities around the globe where bicycles provide life-changing access to opportunities,” said Amy Charity, Founding Partner and CEO of GRVL®. “As an organization whose founding values include fairness and inclusion, the GRVL® team is excited to see how we can expand our support for World Bicycle Relief and ensure more bicycles reach the people that need them most.”

The global partnership will allow World Bicycle Relief to increase understanding and awareness of the many challenges posed by mobility poverty, impacting over 1 billion people in rural communities worldwide, while also providing opportunities for riders to join World Bicycle Relief’s community of passionate changemakers.

“We are thrilled to expand our partnership with GRVL and connect with the vibrant gravel cycling community,” said Dave Neiswander, CEO of World Bicycle Relief. “Gravel riders and the individuals who rely on Buffalo Bicycles share a deep understanding of the empowerment and independence that come from navigating remote, challenging terrain on two wheels. We are grateful to GRVL® and their riders for helping us share the Power of Bicycles, transforming mobility into opportunity for rural families around the world.”

The global partnership is being announced as GRVL opens registrations for FNLD GRVL, which will take place for the 3rd year in Lahti on 7-10 August.

The brainchild of Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas and team behind SBT GRVL, the event will feature three course distances along the pristine gravel roads and stunning forests of Finland. Riders taking part will be encouraged to donate to World Bicycle Relief as part of the entry process.

World Bicycle Relief will also be attending SBT GRVL on 26-29 June, where attendees will have the opportunity to test ride the award-winning Buffalo Utility S2, recently highlighted by cycling influencer Seth’s Bike Hacks, exploring the benefits of its industry’s first two-chain drivetrain.

About GRVL

Founded in 2019 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado SBT GRVL immediately sold out its first year, attracting 2,000 amateur and professional gravel cyclists from around the world to the picturesque mountain town and its endless gravel roads. Each August the event has continued to grow, and sell out, as it ultimately reached a capacity of 3,000 riders with 4 days of family friendly festivities, clinics, a 2-day expo, and athlete panels. In 2022 SBT GRVL Owner Amy Charity partnered with F1 driver and gravel cyclist Valtteri Bottas, and Professional Cyclist Tiffany Cromwell, with the mission of bringing a GRVL event to Valtteri’s hometown of Lahti, Finland. In its inaugural year FNLD GRVL drew in over 800 riders from 27 countries with World Tour professionals competing for a 20,000 Euro prize purse, as well as nearly 150 first time gravel racers lining up in downtown Lahti.

Each year our events continue to grow globally as cyclists have come to associate GRVL with a premium cycling experience in unique locations with a diverse and communal atmosphere that’s as competitive and challenging as it is enjoyable.
