New Guinness World Record set at the Altitude OCR World Championships
Lausanne, Switzerland /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Guinness World Records has verified the Altitude OCR World Championships, the World’s Highest OCR, held September 12th to 21st, 2021 on Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania as the Highest Altitude Obstacle Course Race World Record, achieving an elevation of 5,985m (19,731 ft) above sea level.
The ALTITUDE OCR World Championships is the culmination of the ALTITUDE OCR World Series and ALTITUDE OCR World Finals owned and produced by E.P. Global Events in collaboration with World’s Highest OCR and World Obstacle.
The annual World Championships brings together the colossal elements of the Seven Summits, Obstacle Course Racing and Adventure Racing to create the ultimate challenge for endurance athletes. Participants ascend to extreme altitude on the highest mountains on each of the seven continents, complete ten obstacles and then race back down the mountain to the finish.
“Achieving the Guinness World Record for the Highest Altitude Obstacle Course Race was the result of 25 years’ experience and 24 months of meticulous preparation” said EP Global Events Co-Founder and Co-Director, Mr. Robert Edmond. “The challenge required athletes, porters, guides and support staff to ascend Mt. Kilimanjaro in stages for safety, acclimatising to the 5,985m summit before descending into the crater.”
E.P. Global Events Co-Founder and Co-Director Mr. Dave Pickles added “The World’s Highest OCR employed over 400 local staff, providing benefit to their extended families and the local community. The event resulted in a wide and enduring positive impact, elevating the lives of thousands of people in the region, and supporting them financially for an entire year.”
“Approval of the Altitude OCR World Championships by Guinness World Records validates the achievement of all those involved” said FISO President, Mr. Ian Adamson “The World’s Highest OCR is now established as bucket list event, satisfying the higher goals as a sport, including making better humans and generating positive economic impact.”
