June 23, 2016
CHICO, Calif. (June 23, 2016) – Klean Kanteen, the leader in reusable stainless steel food and beverage solutions is teaming up with the Newport Folk Festival, an iconic American festival in Newport, Rhode Island held on July 22-24, 2016. Artists performing at this year’s festival include Ray Lamontagne, Graham Nash, Elvis Costello, and Norah Jones.
The Newport Folk Festival is implementing Klean Kanteen’s Cup Karma® program this year, which helps festivals eliminate waste by introducing alternatives to single use cups. With the purchase of a reusable Klean stainless-steel pint, the festival is offering one free drink token to encourage attendees to reduce waste and create a more sustainable experience in the festival beer and wine gardens. In addition, Newport Folk branded Klean Kanteens water bottles will be available for purchase, and attendees will be able to fill up their bottles using water stations provided by Klean Kanteen.
“We are thrilled to be working together with the renowned Newport Folk Festival to help expand their sustainability efforts with Klean Kanteen’s Cup Karma program. Newport is a beautiful venue and we’re proud to be helping a great partner who shares our passion for creating solutions and bringing benefit to communities we care about,” says Erika Bruhn, Klean Kanteen Director of Marketing and Brand.
In recent years, Newport Folk Festival has made efforts to green its event. The festival requires all vendors to use compostable cups and plates, offers multiple recycling stations and encourages ride sharing and bike stations.
“Partnering with Klean Kanteen was an easy choice,” says Festival Director, Jill Davidson. “Together we can work to create even more sustainable options for attendees and staff and lighten the festival’s carbon footprint.”

About the Newport Folk Festival:
Newport Folk Festival is one of the oldest and most iconic music festivals in America. Founded in 1959 by George Wein and Pete Seeger, the festival has long been known for its celebration of American music- folk, the blues, jazz and rock. The festival has also hosted a number of once-in-a-lifetime moments such as Bob Dylan going electric in 1965, The Pixies going acoustic in 2005, performances by Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters, Janis Joplin and Howlin’ Wolf and the unannounced set of Roger Waters backed by My Morning Jacket in 2015. Carrying on the tradition of Newport’s excellent curation, is current Executive Producer, Jay Sweet. Under Sweet’s direction Pollstar has named Newport Folk Festival “Music Festival of the Year,” three years in a row. Sweet also created an artistic Board of Supervisors that includes Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Gillian Welch, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Sara Watkins, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, John McCauley of Deer Tick, Ben Jaffe of Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and many more to help guide and protect Newport’s artistic tradition well into the future.
