Kora Announces New Neema Collection of Lightweight Technical Base Layers
March 30, 2021
Yak Wool, Merino and Recycled CoolMax Eco Blend Provides Four Season Next-to-Skin Performance and Comfort
March 30, 2021 – Kora (https://koraoutdoor.com), the pioneer in using yak wool for performance apparel, today announces the launch of its new Neema Collection, a lightweight blend of yak wool, merino, and CoolMax Eco™. The fabric is designed around four-season activities and provides thermoregulation and breathability in all temperatures.
Neema is the latest in Kora’s line of Hima-Layer™ fabrics, and after years of R&D and several generations of prototypes, the brand developed Neema’s lightweight performance blend of 20% yak wool, 40% merino, and 40% recycled polyester (a high-performance fiber with excellent wicking and quick dry properties).
The Neema layers are soft to the touch and have been designed as a stand-alone skin-fit summer layer or a lightweight base layer for all-year-round activities. The breathability and comfort makes it perfect for yoga, summer walks, or a cycling or SUP board adventure (as a water base layer under a wetsuit).
“We conceived, designed, and developed the Neema fabric from the ground up,” says kora founder, Michael Kleinwort. “Drawing on the needs of daily shifts between chasing kids, working, and sneaking in some exercise, we found that we wanted a light base layer that would perform all day outside, inside, and around the city. Neema offers all the benefits of yak wool in a fabric that’s lightweight, highly breathable, and easy to care for.”
The Hima-Layer Neema fabric is knitted in a rib construction so is super-soft, stretchy, and flexible. It’s easy to pull on and off and with extra length in the sleeve and body, it won’t ride up, making it perfect for cycling, yoga, or tucked under a mid-layer. Neema comes in at a lightweight 160gsm. The combination of yak and merino provides body temperature regulation and odor resistance, and the addition of the polyester keeps the body dry and comfortable.
Construction of the garments focuses on reducing bulk, weight, and waste; labels are now pad-prints. Inspired by the seams and durability of sailboat sails, the seams use a triple step zig-zag on an overlock seam to improve durability, last longer and have a flat, comfortable fit on the body.
The collection includes three styles for both men and women: tank, short sleeve crew, and long sleeve crew, and a relaxed-fitting hat. Neema is available in kora’s new colorways: light grey and sky blue.
The benefits of Neema’s yak, merino, and Coolmax combination include:
- Lightweight base layer with thermoregulation to keep the body cool in the heat and warm in the cold
- Breathable and draws moisture away from the skin so you stay dry
- Naturally odor-resistant, so you can wear it for days at a time and pack light
- Super-soft and itch-free for more comfort
- Natural stretch that flexes as you move
- Machine washable; dries fast
