Moosejaw Customers may now sell previously-owned gear directly on moosejaw.com
MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (February 9, 2023) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – With consumers expressing a greater desire to make smarter, more planet-friendly purchasing decisions, Moosejaw, a leading retailer specializing in outdoor gear and apparel, launches ReTrail on February 9th, a resale program, powered by Recurate, a leader in circular economy technology. This platform gives Moosejaw’s customers the opportunity to buy and sell their previously owned items directly on Moosejaw.com.
“For over 30 years, we’ve worked hard to bring the magic of the outdoors and the gear needed to as many people as possible,“ said Eoin Comerford, CEO of Moosejaw. ”Through the ReTrail program, we are making it easier for our current customers to sell their gear and more approachable for new consumers to obtain gear. This program answers the rising consumer demand to incorporate eco-conscious habits into their daily lives.”
Through the peer-to-peer platform, users select items from their Moosejaw order history to list for sale. Sellers upload their product photos, descriptions, and select a recommended price for their item, which will then be authenticated and approved by Moosejaw to appear on the ReTrail platform. When the item sells, users will receive a prepaid shipping label to send it to its next home, eliminating the environmental footprint and logistics of shipping to a 3rd-party warehouse.
Unlike other programs, Moosejaw does not take a commission on the sale. Once the buyer verifies the item’s condition, the seller will be paid 100% of their listing price in Moosejaw Reward Dollars, which can be used to purchase new gear on Moosejaw.com and in Moosejaw stores, rentals, or pre-owned gear on ReTrail. Moosejaw High Altitude Members with K2 or Everest status will earn an extra 10 percent in Moosejaw Rewards for their sales. Buyers also earn 2.5 percent back in Moosejaw Rewards on their pre-loved gear purchases.
“We want our customers to recoup the full value of participating in the circular economy,” explained Mr. Comerford. “Of course we benefit down the road by attracting new customers and when sellers return to spend their Moosejaw Reward Dollars.”
The ReTrail program is an additional sustainable pillar to the current Moosejaw gear rental program and The Moosejaw Outerwear Collection. The gear rental program ships to any destination in the continental US, expanding the rental option to outdoor lovers not close to a gear rental store. Outbound and return shipping is free for most rentals. Consumers can feel good about the gear rental program as it helps to reduce the overproduction of equipment by encouraging gear sharing and re-use. To reward consumers for doing good and keep them coming back for more, each rental also earns 10% back in Moosejaw Reward Dollars that can be applied right away to paying rental fees or buying gear and apparel for their next adventure.
The Moosejaw Outerwear Collection, bringing mindfully made performance outerwear to broader audiences, is responsibly made with accessible pricing and inclusive sizing for men and women. The men’s and women’s line includes fabric shells made with 100% recycled polyester and leverages Moosejaw’s 30-year outerwear expertise to deliver more warmth and performance for less. Specific pieces of the Moosejaw Outerwear Collection have sustainability attributes such as all the down filling in the collection is Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certified, the synthetic insulation is 100% recycled polyester, and seven of the 12 styles have a lining made from 100% recycled polyester.
