Mountainsmith Debuts New Design on ’80s Classic with the Mountain Tipi

(Golden, CO) – Mountainsmith – craftsmen of iconic backcountry equipment and recreational outdoor gear – will debut the Mountain Tipi at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market this month in Denver, CO (Booth #: 44080-UL). Originally designed by Mountainsmith Founder Patrick Smith, the Mountain Tipi comes back in 2019 with innovative technology inspired by the needs and demands of today’s adventures. In addition, Mountainsmith welcomes a new bug shelter and 12 returning styles‒ including the Vasquez Peak Series, the brand’s most technical tent design to-date. 

“Inspired by our original 1980s design and revamped for 2019, the Mountain Tipi embodies the spirit of the 40th Anniversary and the values Mountainsmith has held true since 1979. It was born out of the need for a dependable backcountry shelter back when Mountainsmith founder and legendary mountain guide Patrick Smith was spending over a third of the year in the remote Rockies,” says Luke Boldman, Design Lead and Product Line Manager. “Today, we reintroduce the Tipi with lighter, more durable materials for added resilience in the wild. We also offer an included bug nest for comfort in any terrain. We’re excited to see where this shelter takes us, both as a brand and in the field.”

The Mountain Tipi’s Fast-Fly system guarantees quick set-up, while the single-pole Tipi design encourages an enhanced space to weight ratio – nearly 55 square feet at less than 4 lbs. (floor area x fast fly weight). For quieter days in the frontcountry, the Mountainsmith Shelter House brings an enhanced summer experience by keeping both the sun and bugs at bay. With no-see-um Mesh Panels and 3-sided zipper sun-shade, summer comfort is guaranteed. Products set to hit retailers nationwide in January 2019.
