Oru Kayak turned to the crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter, to engage their community with its latest origami design innovation. The response was resounding and upon closing their 6th Kickstarter campaign, Oru Kayak had raised $203,412 from 721 backers.

Oru Camp is a versatile collection of products whose unique design and new colorway make the furniture stand out against traditional camp and patio furniture designs. With the products weighing as little as 4.5 lbs and the setup without loose components, these pieces are convenient to fold, transport, and assemble anywhere in minutes. Since the Kickstarter launch last spring, Oru has also updated the product’s colorway with sleek, contemporary black and white accents.

The Oru Camp collection is constructed of Oru’s abrasion-resistant UV-treated corrugated plastic, OruPlast™, that is durable for over 20,000 folds. The Oru Camp collection also utilizes “living hinges,” a unique origami fold that distributes large amounts of weight with exceptional durability. These hinges significantly reduce weight while providing comparable durability to wood or metal furniture.

Oru’s versatile SwitchTable (MSRP: $149) demonstrates these inherent origami advantages. When assembled as a prep table, the SwitchTable weighs 11.5 lbs and stands at a 29.5” height. Then, with two quick folds, it can be instantly transformed into a 15.5” coffee table or a bench for two people.
