SportRx and Oakley collaborate to make limited-edition Flak 2.0 XL

Oakley’s top-selling sunglass gets a custom makeover from prescription eyewear brand SportRx

SAN DIEGO (June 11, 2019)— SportRx, makers of custom prescription sport sunglasses and snow goggles for athletes, is proud to introduce the new limited-edition Oakley/SportRx Flak 2.0 XL. SportRx is Oakley’s No. 1 optical account. The exclusive product offering comes after a 12-year history of SportRx working closely with Oakley to offer authentic prescription sunglasses and eyeglasses.

The Flak 2.0 XL is the ultimate frame for athletes. From mountain biking to golf and everything in between, there is not an activity out there that doesn’t suit these sunglasses. The prescription-friendly sunglasses also fit many different head shapes and sizes. As the top-selling sunglass for both SportRx and Oakley, the Flak 2.0 XL was an obvious choice for a collaboration.

“At the beginning of this year, Oakley approached us with an incredible opportunity,” says SportRx Vice PresidentRobTavakoli. “Of their 50,000 accounts worldwide, they handpicked SportRx to create a Special Make Upproduct with them. SMUs are collaborations between Oakley and a partner company or athlete. Famous Oakley collaborations include Ferrari, Ducati, Shaun White, Tour de France and now…SportRx!”

The custom design started in what Oakley calls the “supermarket” – home to every single Oakley frame, lens, and icon color imaginable. Canisters of Plutonite, frames and icons of every color under the sun, and PRIZM lens option line the walls of the classified room. There, SportRx hand-pickedexactly what colors they wanted to use for the collaboration, ultimately deciding on Matte Carbon with a Soft Touch Black icon.

“We haven’t actually used this colorway on a Flak Jacket before,” Oakley Product Line Manager Radcliffe Gallardo, points out.

Matte Carbon also blends perfectly with the black Unobtanium earsocks and icon. The SportRx/Oakley Flak 2.0 XL comes standard with grey lenses, but swapping lenses is easy. Any PRIZM lens is immediately intensified when paired with the Matte Carbon colorway which is another reason why SportRx was drawn to it.
