Sun Valley’s 89th Season Boasts Seattle Ridge Upgrades and World Cup Excitement

Sun Valley, ID (Oct. 9, 2024) /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ –  Sun Valley Resort, North America’s first destination ski resort, established in 1936, looks forward to welcoming guests back for its 89th winter season which commences on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, 2024.

Sun Valley Resort recently earned its title as the destination for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals, March 22-27, 2025, and will play host to athletes, families, and travelers worldwide. The world’s top men and women athletes will compete on Sun Valley’s “Challenger Course” in the Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom and Slalom races at the first-ever Stifel Sun Valley Finals. More information and schedule of events can be found here. Additionally, this season guests will get to experience the upgraded Seattle Ridge Chairlift, improving skier circulation and terrain access to this much-loved area of Bald Mountain.

“The Seattle Ridge chairlift upgrade came at the perfect time as we continue our investment in the mountain experience at Sun Valley,” said Pete Sonntag, Vice President and General Manager of Sun Valley Resort. “We have so much to be excited about this season, from expanded terrain to hosting the first-ever Stifel Sun Valley World Cup Finals this spring. We’re incredibly proud of our mountain staff and our community for coming together to make this a banner year.”

The new Seattle Ridge Chairlift will open mid-December, 2024 as the second phase of the resort’s Warm Springs Enhancement Plan. This new detachable six-person Doppelmayr chairlift will increase uphill capacity in the Seattle Ridge area by 20-percent. It will also improve skier circulation to this side of Bald Mountain, creating a smoother flow of riders around the base area and across the hill.

In partnership with the National Forest Foundation, US Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management, the work conducted in the Sunrise region will reduce fire risk while improving forest health and preserving the unbeatable recreational experience.

In anticipation of Sun Valley Resort’s winter season opening, the annual Pray for Snow Party returns at River Run Lodge on Nov. 16, complete with vintage costumes, a dance party, raffle, and a food drive. Sun Valley’s apparel sponsor, Mammut, will be there with giveaways for the winter season too. More details can be found on the event calendar.

Season passes can still be purchased for the upcoming season including Sun Valley Resort’s annual season pass offerings and renewed pass partnerships with Ikon Pass and The Mountain Collective. Winter lodging specials can be found here.
