Tread Labs Launches New Trail Shoe Collection

December 10, 2024

Tread Labs, best known for their highly supportive sandals and insoles, introduced a new collection of Trail Shoes with features that are completely new to the trade.

Woburn, MA – December 10, 2024 /OUTDOOR SPORTSWIRE/ – Tread Labs, best known for their highly supportive sandals and insoles, introduced a new collection of Trail Shoes at the Grassroots Connect Tradeshow in Kansas City last month. The new collection offers several features that are completely new to the trade. Each pair of shoes comes with a pair of semi-custom insoles that retail for $75. Because most shoes have minimal foam insoles worth a few dollars at best, this is sets Tread Labs shoes apart as fundamentally different.

To help tell the story of support, the shoe packaging features a ‘box-in-box’ concept. The shoe box has 2 lids. Under one lid are the shoes – without any insoles inside. Under the 2nd lid are the insoles – in their separate, retail packaging. Store staff can showcase the value and benefits of the insoles as they insert them into the shoes in front of the customer.

“We were concerned that retailers wouldn’t like the extra step in the fitting process, but we have found the opposite”, says Mark Paigen, founder of Tread Labs. “Every retailer we have shown the ‘box-in-box’ concept has loved the idea of engaging with customers to show a new level of comfort and support.”

The collection is positioned between the popular athletic styles dominating the footwear market and legacy hiking brands. Stack heights provide generous cushioning yet feel stable off-road. Styling is minimal and decidedly outdoor. Colorways are appealing but not flashy. “The response has exceeded our expectations”, says Geoff Pedder, Sales Director. “We seem to have found a sweet spot in the eyes of the retail buyers.”

The trail ready collection offers styles for men and women in low-cut and mid-cut silhouettes. Dover RS styles feature 100% recycled ripstop uppers, while Dover models feature uppers of thick unlined suede. “The comfort of a thick, unlined leather upper is unbeatable.” says Paigen. “No other outdoor shoe company offers this kind of comfort.” All styles feature Vibram Eco-Step recycled outsoles.

Retail prices range from $155 for low-cut textile uppers to $200 for mid-cut leather uppers. “With an included $75 insole and quality Vibram soles, the value is evident to buyers.” says Pedder. “With pre-season deadlines approaching, retailers will need to get orders in quickly.“

The APMA-approved orthotic insoles included with every pair of Tread Labs trail shoes are also available separately as part of the Tread Labs family of supportive footwear.
