Revolutionary Ski Brand Snags Honors from Freeskier, Men’s Journal and Backcountry
Salt Lake City, Utah (September 2020) – WNDR®️Alpine, the celebrated brand that introduced biotechnology into the winter sports industry last year, has picked up a trio of prestigious awards for its two revolutionary ski lines, the Vital 100 and the Intention 110.
Freeskier Magazine has honored WNDR Alpine’s Vital 100 with its Editor’s Choice award ahead of the 2020-21 winter season, dubbing the Vital 100 “the future of ski construction in an environmentally-friendly package.” Launched earlier this year as the brand’s second ski model, the Vital 100 also utitlizes novel biobased materials derived from microalgae, including the brand’s all-new Algal Wall cast polyurethane sidewalls, which deliver superior damping and increase the overall structural integrity and durability of the ski. The process used to cast the Algal Wall sidewalls nearly eliminates the plastic waste from the landfill compared to the ski industry’s traditional use of extruded plastic sidewalls.
Men’s Journal validated the Vital 100 with the magazine’s coveted Style & Design 2020 Award, declaring that “the bio-based build is no eco-conscious gimmick. The lively, responsive ski punches above its weight class with high-speed stability on variable snowpack, while remaining nimble in steep and technical situations.”
Backcountry Magazine awarded WNDR Alpine’s Intention 110 a featured Gear Guide Selection in 2020, as the latest accolade for WNDR Alpine’s ski line. Launched in 2019 as the first-ever ski to include algae as a core ingredient, the Intention 110 uses the brand’s proprietary AlgalTech™ ski materials platform in its Algal Core and Algal Wall applications designed to increase torsional rigidity, stability, and durability without adding weight to the skis.
Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, WNDR Alpine was founded by industry veteran and founder of 4FRNT Skis, Matt Sterbenz in July 2019 as a brand under the umbrella of Checkerspot, a high-performance materials company that specializes in the development of next generation polyurethanes, textile coatings, and finishes.
“WNDR Alpine has come a long way in a very short time,” said Pep Fujas, a celebrated professional skier formerly at K2 who also serves as WNDR Alpine’s Vice President of Marketing and Product Development, “I feel like each of these accolades prove that our technology platform has legs, and those legs can ski!”
